How to Become a QA Tester for Video Games
A video game QA tester is a part of the technical game development team that checks the build of a game for bugs and glitches. They do it by playing and replaying the game, checking every scenario possible, from the most common to the most improbable ones.
There are several ways you can start in the field. First, you can study in a related field in college (like game design) or take an online course on the subject. Special education is not always required, but it is an advantage that can put you ahead of the competition.
Another way you can enter the field is just by being a gaming fan. If you’ve learned good and bad level design from years of experience, have the patience to play the same level over and over again, and know of the most common bugs – you have the qualities a game tester needs.
Finally, you can get into video game QA testing if you have experience in the software QA industry. Common QA practices apply to video games as well, so the rigorous and thorough way of thinking software testers have will be applicable here.
